PRAELUDERE in Munich

for KUNST IM BAU 5 curated by Christoph Nicolas

First site specific installation and performance of the PRAELUDERE (ballades from the 20th century) scores

with Marcus Kaiser (cello), Christoph Nicolas (stone harp) Emmanuelle Waeckerlé (voice)

The 3 performers were in adjacent spaces not able to see each other, only to hear each other as well as the field recording I made the previous day outside the building. A video projection consisting of a close reading of the score provided a visual point of reference for those who needed it. The audience was free to wonder from one space to the next. Chairs were also provided.

The performance was recorded and the soundtrack was subsequently added to the video reading of the score, thus becoming the only remaining trace and document of the event.

The ballades have also been performed twice (without an audience) as words and other marks on paper. They have become new folded pages for eyes and mind to wander.

- Every footprint is a song...the song of life...painted on the sand...painted in air…

PRAELUDERE (ballades from the 20th century)

Four ballades from the 20th century, to be read, sang, walked or performed, alone or with others, inside or outside, sitting, standing or walking, with or without instrument. A set of four text score at the source of a body of work (performances, videos, prints, artist book) exploring the notion of the ballad as being somewhere in between a walk and a song.
