The Saison Poetry library, London
13/01/2015 - 01/03/2015
for ‘On Reading and Walking and Thinking…’ exhibition at the Southbank Centre
Fourth activation of the PRAELUDERE (ballades from the 20th century) scores alongside traces of previous ballades.
- Every footprint is a song...the song of life...painted on the sand...painted in air…
(Nanao Sakaki 1976)
Every Thursday at 5pm during the length of the exhibition, I sat at the same spot, looking out one of the gallery windows, using the PRAELUDERE scores to map where I was, what I saw / heard, absorbing more each time while gradually being more absorbed.
Traces of these whimsical ballades, a few sounds, images, words and marks on paper, together with a field recording of the location, have become new folded pages and a video for eyes and mind to wander.

PRAELUDERE (ballades from the 20th century)
Four ballades from the 20th century, to be read, sang, walked or performed, alone or with others, inside or outside, sitting, standing or walking, with or without instrument. A set of four text score at the source of a body of work (performances, videos, prints, artist book) exploring the notion of the ballad as being somewhere in between a walk and a song.
