‘ The great learning’ paragraph 3

Salle Attane, St Yrieix-la-Perche
Led by Sebastian Lexer on the first evening of Jeux de Bouches

With local musicians, and members of the local choir and the music school of St Yrieix-la-Perche

Cornelius Cardew composed experimental works for each of the seven paragraphs of The Great Learning by Confucius (translated into English by Ezra Pound). Each piece is for different instrumentation. Paragraph 3 (1970) is for voices and large instruments.

The aim of the Jeux de Bouches project was to bring together the various cultural, social and educational structures of a small city to work together with invited artists around a common theme – the mouth organ. It concluded with a weekend of events: an exhibition, a street parade, a public banquet and 2 evening of performances.

A partnership with JPF cultural centre, CDLA (center for artists books) and the city council of St Yrieix la Perche.
