PRAVDA means truth in Russian.
As a performance the work remains a journey of exploration through words and their meaning but also becomes a dialogue between languages, and between private and public space .see also PRAVDA installation.
A Russian speaking man Vitaly Konnonov and an English speaking woman, myself, undertake a live reading/chanting of the 2 books. Using stillness and movement, distance and closeness and also repetition, each voice is responding to the other in a semi improvised manner. The performance last approximately thirty minutes.
Performed in August 1999 at the 4th St. Petersburg Biennial and won first prize.
