I Confess

1998

A personal moment of introspection is turned into a public spectacle. See also I confess the performance. In the middle of a dark space a free standing screen on which is projected life size the video of the naked confessor, delivering her confession. The installation attempts to contrast the nature of the spectacle with what is revealed in the confession; the preoccupation, frustrations, anxieties, fears and confusion one sometimes feels. The intention is to expose and challenge the voyeuristic fascination that public confessions can elicit in an audience, bearing in mind that the fascination is normally proportional to the sensationalism of the act revealed. The viewer becomes the confessor and equally the nature of what is revealed will hopefully lead him/her to identify with the confessed.

Duration – 30 minutes looped.
