A new knowledge exchange and community-building project where we can learn to co-create a more caring and sustainable world.
A collaboration with Sarah Johnson (This way up)
how do we distribute care so it becomes not just personal, but political? @erotics of liberation
Every Sunday 6.30pm to 8.30pm
We gather at the beautiful Antenna Studio dance space to practice the life-giving energies of play, mischief, defiance and daring to help us nurture joyful and sustainable connection to ourselves, our ground, and each other.
1st Sunday SOCIAL P(A)LACE
Connecting and sharing food and ideas: matriarchy as a social and cultural model, radical friendship, I love to you, kith and kin.
2nd Sunday
Sensing and Translating: bodythoughtbodytalk, inner forest, drum draw dance
3rd Sunday COMMON SOUND
Listening and Sounding : free improvisation
4th Sunday MAKE COMMON
Seeing and Manifesting
Formal or informal, long-lasting and fleeting, intimate and anonymous, fraught and infuriating, friendship is central to ways of being in the world, and to remaking it. (Friends in Common, Laura C. Forster & Joel White, 2025)
After each session we posted a series of takeaway reflections to be shared by all.
Last Common P(a)lace : Solstice Extravaganza
We closed our first, five month long Common P(a)lace season on the Summer Solstice. It’s been a wonderful series, full of joy and creativity. An opportunity to reflect on what we’ve been up to, feed into the next Common P(a)lace iteration, and taste a little of the music-making and other forms of play that have brought us all together these past twenty Sundays. We performed a version of What is left if we are not the world, just released by Edition Wandelweiser.
The South London 5 Rythms Dance Community grown and nurtured by Sarah Johnson for the past few years has provided the testing ground for sharing my research in embodied and relational creative methods and delivering workshops focused on free improvisation, performance art, and expanded drawing to the local community,
The project is supported by CRYSTAL PALACE Farmer’s Market and Antenna Studios.
