Hole story

1999 revisited 2005
Trou story

The focus of the installation is a giant enlargement of a small paper sculpture of a hole in diminishing perspective, emphasised by the play of light on the torn paper.
A simple construction that the viewer can stare into and explore.

What you see is what you get. A hole in diminishing perspective emphasised by the play of light on the torn paper, as a blank template awaiting to be filled with meaning and interpretation

The construction is made of white 350 gms Archer paper held by invisible wooden frames (one per layer) fixed to the ceiling by cables. Each hole has been lovingly torn by myself, sometimes using my body as a drilling tool.

To complete the installation – A series of drawings, enlargements of A4 digital drawings from photographs; of a man and a woman looking through a small paper hole construction. – A multiple edition of a miniature paper version of the huge hole is also displayed as well as A2 and A3 posters “make your own hole”, that the audience will have the opportunity to realise in situ. – An artist book of digital rubbings in which I store all the textures I encounter in and around the location of the installtion, metaphorically using the small paper construction as a siphon (as illustrated in the giant drawings)

Dimensions of monumental hole 2.50 m high x 2 m wide 8 folds dimensions of miniature hole 9 cm x 10.5 cm 8 folds plus folding cover.
