A duet (virtually)

Vocal improvisation on the edges of language between a voice and its avatar

Performed by Emmanuelle Waeckerlé (voice, live electronics) and Sebastian Lexer ( interactive video)

; “ ... Dismantling the organism has never meant killing yourself, but rather opening the body to connections…”. How do you make yourself a body without organs, Deleuze and Guattari.

A duo @ CCJPF St Yrieix la Perche

Part of an ongoing research project exploring the body as language and the interplay between the real and the virtual.

In this proposed duet between a voice (EW on stage) and its avatar (VINST played by Sebastian Lexer) interesting connections between virtual instrument and real counterpart are created live. It is sometimes difficult to separate between real and virtual manifestations, as both infiltrate each others space, thus blurring established boundaries and bridging for a moment the gap between the human and its alter image.

A duet (virtually) @ NYCEMF New York

A duet (virtually) was premiered at NYCEMF (New York City Electroacoustic Music Festival) in the Martin Segal theatre at CUNY on Saturday 4th of April 2009. It was also performed for Jeux de bouches Epilogue – CCJPF St Yrieix la Perche in December 08.

programed in Max MSP and Jitter by Sebastian Lexer

A unique vocal instrument, part human part virtual – a body without organs – responding to touch but also to mood and sensibility. It consists of my body image displaying points of sonic sensitivity. The sounds are pre- or non- linguistic, and are based on how the body reacts to touch and how it produces sound. I personally derive as much pleasure playing (with) my virtual self as from watching others doing so.
