Jungle fever (wish you were here) in Dusseldorf

KUNSTRAUM – 19th July - 11am to 7pm

for A PLACE TO STAY , an exhibition and series of events curated by Antoine Beuger

This is the 4th experiment of JUNGLE FEVER (wish you were here), a project initiated in 2011, originally as an attempt to reclaim Leisure and Tourism using the strategies of their consumption. The project has evolved in response to what fellow junglers contributed along the way, strategies and insights that are feeding through future manifestations. it was thought that perhaps it is not just Tourism that needs to be reclaimed, since hand in hand, the media and the global economy have transformed the world into a touristic attraction, and its inhabitants into tourists and consumers.

JUNGLE FEVER is a 42 pages user’s guide in three languages (English, German and French) with a map, proposing possible destinations and activities conducive to take one beyond one’s personal borders and daily routines; short ballades, 8 hours and 24 hours journeys. These instructions can be followed literally, metaphorically or poetically and the accompanying map refer equally to the body, the mind or the environment (indoor or outdoor) as potential sites of exploration.

The gallery space is turned into a departure lounge displaying relevant visual and textual data,
traces of past destinations. it is also a base and a meeting point where food and refreshments
are provided. The JUNGLE FEVER guide is activated by willing participants who in the process
become either perfomers of the work, or spectators.
Adventures, friendships and memories were gathered along the way, as well as a few snapshots, home movies and postcards.

with antoine beuger, sylvia schimag, marcus kaiser, andré o muller, christoph nicolaus , pablo estrada, daniel brandes, joep dorren , ria blumenthal and a few other visitors through out the day.
